Digestibility and fecal characteristics of dogs fed with Bacillus subtilis in diet

“Dogs supplemented with the tested probiotic presented dryer feces (39.1% vs. 36.5% dry matter), higher fecal score (3.4 vs. 3.0) and lower fecal ammonia content (0.45% vs. 0.56%), than dogs fed with the control diet. The dietary supplementation with Bacillus subtilis improves fecal texture and odor in dogs.”

Effects of a probiotic intervention in acute canine gastroenteritis – a controlled clinical trial

“The probiotic cocktail consisted of thermo-stabilised Lactobacillus acidophilus and live strains of Pediococcus acidilactici, Bacillus subtilis, Bacillus licheniformis and Lactobacillus farciminis.

RESULTS: The time from initiation of treatment to the last abnormal stools was found to be significantly shorter (P = 0·04) in the probiotic group compared to placebo group, the mean time was 1·3 days and 2·2 days, respectively.”
